I Don’t Want Mercy!!
ME: Daddy is going to give you mercy tonight.
Kaitlyn(Balling hysterically): But, I don’t want it! I don’t want it!
ME: Wait, wait, wait. Kaitlyn, that is a good thing. Kaitlyn, stop crying.
Kaitlyn: Please, no.
I then had to explain to her that mercy is not what God did to Jesus, but what he didn’t do to us. So, we sat and talked while she calmed down. We then prayed, and she asked Jesus to forgive her for sinning. It was sweet, but I couldn’t imagine what was going through her head when I said that to her.

Let’s hit the ice!
I took Landon and Kaitlyn out today for a second attempt at making them enjoy ice-fishing. I came prepared with the shanty this time. I had a hard time finding time to set it up because they kept catching fish.

Winner!
Today was the big day. This was Kaitlyn’s first AWANA Grand Prix(Pinewood Derby knock-off). This was also Mine and Beth’s first time as parents. Kaitlyn took third place in the Cubbies’ division, as well as best design in the Cubbies. We were really happy for her. She also got to watch her cousins take first in Cubbies, and first and second in Sparks. That’s my girl!

She Said What?
The past few days Kaitlyn has said some crazy things that have made us go, “Huh?”
The other day, on the way home from Michigan, I took Kaitlyn in to go to the bathroom. It was a public bathroom, and there were other people utilizing the facilities. She asked me a question that freaked me out and made me hope no one heard her. I laughed after we got to the car, but I made sure she knew she could get Daddy in a lot of trouble if she said that again.
Tonight, this was my plate. Kaitlyn looked at it and said, “Daddy’s gonna have diarrhea with that.” This time we laughed right away as Beth quickly affirmed her agreement with Kaitlyn. I will say that Daddy can handle beans and franks. Or as some would say, “Frank and Beanth, Frank and Beanth. Frank and Beanth.” Daddy had no issues after this plate.
Have your kids ever said something in public that made you want to crawl in a hole?

Wiggly Wiggly WOOHAH!
So I broke down and did it. I took Kaitlyn and Landon to see The Wiggles. Kaitlyn told me she wanted a yellow shirt like Greg wears. I explained to her that Greg wasn’t with them anymore, and that Sammy is the new yellow Wiggle. When the concert started she saw Sammy and said, “The yellow one is different, Daddy!” She had forgotten our conversation, but she still noticed the difference. Landon sat on my lap with the same straight face until half way through. As soon as his arms started moving there was no stopping him. I told my brother that the prices for the merchandise were a rip off. So there I was at the merch. table getting one yellow shirt, one blue shirt, one Capt. Feathersword hat, and one Dorothy the Dinosaur hat. Add a dinner at McDonald’s on the way there and icecream at McDonald’s on the way home and I’m tapped. It was worth the $35 per ticket to see the kids have that much fun. And yes, I did the motions to “Rock-a-bye Your Bear” and waved my cell phone on the air with the many other lame parents during “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” as they turned out all the lights. I was a twinkling star in the night sky for my kids.

My Songs to my Kids one by one(Kaitlyn)
In a recent post, I shared what songs I would most want to share with each of my kids as a picture of how I see them. The next four posts, including this one, will each be for one kid.
Like I said, Kaitlyn is my princess. She is unlike any son I can ever raise. I will raise her as a priceless treasure to be passed on later in life. I am her source of wisdom, protection, and comfort. No one in her life will be able to have the relationship I have with her. That is until that day when “Mr. Approved by Daddy” comes along. I say that jokingly, but it’s true. We joke about the gauntlet of questions that dads throw at potential boyfriends. Girls seem to think that Daddy has no say, but if I raise my daughter correctly to understand that I am responsible for her, and that I am passing my responsibility onto this man she’s “in love with,” then she will want my approval of any man she desires that with. But, for now, she is mine. Yes, I know. She is God’s. I gave her back to God January 19, 2004. She is my entrustment to hold until it i time for her to go to the man of her dreams, of God’s design.
Right now, the song I choose for her is “May I have this dance?” by Scott Krippayne. He wrote this song for his daughter when she was about three. He was in Starbuck’s with her when a song she liked came on. She asked him to dance, so in the middle of Starbuck’s they danced. It’s a beautiful song. Check out the video below.
As she grows and will meet “Mr. Takeover” there is a special song by Mark Harris. It’s called “Find Your Wings.” As she goes with this man, my prayer is that she finds her wings as a Godly woman, wife, and mother. Check this video out below as well. It isn’t the official video, but the person who put this one together did an awesome job. You can see Mark’s official video here. These are Kaitlyn’s songs. Someday she will understand the message of each as I live them out with her.
