Connersvine Kick

Posted in Music, Music Kicks, Videos at 7:33 pm by Dan Barnett

connersvine.jpgI found Connersvine by clicking a bunch of links on itunes.  These guys are amazing.  The message of their songs is raw and personal.  The title of this post is funny because of who the lead singer is.  Connersvine is composed of Hunter Smith and Chris Wilson.  Hunter, the lead singer, is also the punter for the Indianapolis Colts.  There are  a lot of Christian players on that team really following God and making an impact.  The song I’ve been listening to is “A Time To Die”.   Beth heard the title and immediately didn’t like it, but I explained the lyrics to her, and she seemed to change her mind.  While trying to minister to a couple of lost friends who are on the verge of trusting in Christ, I came across this song and realized how much I needed to hear the words myself.  The second verse is what I really like.  He’s in his knees before God surrendering everything to Him.  He then asks God to raise him from his knees and give him the strength to stand.  So many times we give it all over to him, but then we try to stand on our own strength—–not good.  This song is awesome.  You need to go to itunes and download it.

The video is of another one of their songs called “Lay Down” so you can hear their sound.

A Time to Die

Here I am alone again
The rise and fall against the wind
Alive I’ll be the last to carry on
I see the writing on the wall
For every dream to crash and fall
And tremble like the darkness at the dawn

This is the time to die
This is the time to separate
This is the time to celebrate
Leaving this world behind
The time to die
The waters have risen high again
And all of my idols tremble in
The wake of your love divine

So raise me from my bended knees
Who bow to things that cannot see
And lift me to a place where I stand
Replace my heart and all I lack
And place the wood upon my back
The cross of my dear lover, savior, friend

So take my dreams and take my wealth
And all betrayal You have felt
Take them as a tool for sacrifice
To work to kill or even still
Your kingdom dreams to fulfill
Today this altar is my stage for life

Guys’ Rules for Women

Posted in Friends, Moral Issues, Things that make me SMILE, Things that make me laugh, Thoughts, WOmen at 9:59 pm by Dan Barnett

I got this in an email from a friend of mine.  I especially like #1.

The Guys’ Rules
At last a guy has taken the time to write this all down

Finally, the guys’ side of the story.
(I must admit, it’s pretty good.)
We always hear ” the rules”
From the female side.

Now here are the rules from the male side.
These are our rules!
Please note.. these are all numbered “1″
ON PURPOSE!

1.   Men are NOT mind readers.

1. Learn to work the toilet seat.
You’re a big girl. If it’s up, put it down.
We need it up, you need it down.
You don’t hear us complaining about you leaving it down.

1. Sunday sports. It’s like the full moon
or the changing of the tides.
Let it be.

1. Shopping is NOT a sport.
And no, we are never going to think of it that way.

1. Crying is blackmail.

1. Ask for what you want.
Let us be clear on this one:
Subtle hints do not work!
Strong hints do not work!
Obvious hints do not work!
Just say it!

1. Yes and No are perfectly acceptable answers to almost every question.

1. Come to us with a problem only if you want help solving it. That’s what we do.
Sympathy is what your girlfriends are for.

1. A headache that lasts for 17 months is a Problem.
 See a doctor.

1. Anything we said 6 months ago is inadmissible in an argument.
In fact, all comments become null and void after 7 Days.

1. If you won’t dress like the Victoria’s Secret girls, don’t Expect us to act like soap opera guys.

1. If you think you’re fat, you probably are.
Don’t ask us.

1. If something we said can be interpreted two ways and one of the ways makes you sad or angry, we meant the  other one .

1. You can either ask us to do something
Or tell us how you want it done.
Not both.
If you already know best how to do it, just do it yourself.

1. Whenever possible, Please say whatever you have to say during commercials.

1. Christopher Columbus did NOT need directions and neither do we.

1. ALL men see in only 16 colors, like Windows default settings.
Peach, for example, is a fruit, not A color. Pumpkin is also a fruit. We have no idea what mauve is.

1. If it itches, it will be scratched.
We do that.

1. If we ask what is wrong and you say “nothing,” We will act like nothing’s wrong.
We know you are lying, but it is just not worth the hassle.

1. If you ask a question you don’t want an answer to, Expect an answer you don’t want to hear.

1. When we have to go somewhere, absolutely anything you wear is fine… Really.

1. Don’t ask us what we’re thinking about unless you are prepared to discuss such topics as baseball, the shotgun formation,
or golf.

1. You have enough clothes.

1. You have too many shoes.

1. I am in shape.   Round IS a shape!

1. Thank you for reading this.
Yes, I know, I have to sleep on the couch tonight;

What do you call Him?

This is a good song by Phillips Craig and Dean.  The video is neat that this person put to the song.  It lists the names of God.  The song talks about the power of God’s name.  No matter what good things you do in life, if it isn’t for God’s glory and to show him, it’s to show yourself.

In Christ Alone…..

Posted in Christian Life, God's Sovreignty, Jesus Christ, Thoughts, Videos, Worship at 4:14 pm by Dan Barnett

I’m kinda getting tired of people putting all these songs to the Passion.  I wish people would just let it speak for itself.  That being said, I did like theuse of it in this video.  When you came to Christ, you placed your trust in him.  Do you still?  When your finances dwindle, do you still put your trust in him alone?  When your job, or your spouse’s job is on the line, do you still put your trust in Him alone?  When the diagnosis comes back positive, do you still put your trust in Him alone?  How about when you’re lifted up as a hero, do you still put your trust in him alone?  Do your kids know it’s Christ who gives you strength, or do they see their mommy or daddy as a superhero?  I think it’s something to really dig into ourselves and find out.  There’s two videos on here that I think dig into my ego, hopefully they do the same  for you.

This should make you care about your kids’ nutrition.

Posted in Mission, Videos at 6:59 pm by Dan Barnett

This is scary.  The mom has no idea the whole ride.  It looks like the kid(not trying to poke fun) was too fat for the straps.  His fat just gave and went right through.

She Said What?

Posted in Kaitlyn, My Kids, Personal, Things that make me laugh at 11:20 pm by Dan Barnett

The past few days Kaitlyn has said some crazy things that have made us go, “Huh?”

The other day, on the way home from Michigan, I took Kaitlyn in to go to the bathroom.  It was a public bathroom, and there were other people utilizing the facilities.  She asked me a question that freaked me out and made me hope no one heard her.  I laughed after we got to the car, but I made sure she knew she could get Daddy in a lot of trouble if she said that again.

Tonight, this was my plate. 001.jpgKaitlyn looked at it and said, “Daddy’s gonna have diarrhea with that.”  This time we laughed right away as Beth quickly affirmed her agreement with Kaitlyn.  I will say that Daddy can handle beans and franks.  Or as some would say, “Frank and Beanth, Frank and Beanth.  Frank and Beanth.”  Daddy had no issues after this plate.

Have your kids ever said something in public that made you want to crawl in a hole?

Yeah, I know this is stupid.

you are violet
#EE82EE

Your dominant hues are red and blue. You’re confident and like showing people new ideas. You play well with others and can be very influential if you want to be.

Your saturation level is lower than average – You don’t stress out over things and don’t understand people who do. Finishing projects may sometimes be a challenge, but you schedule time as you see fit and the important things all happen in the end, even if not everyone sees your grand master plan.

Your outlook on life is bright. You see good things in situations where others may not be able to, and it frustrates you to see them get down on everything.

In God’s Arms

Posted in Baby #3, Eternity, Family, Heaven, My Kids, Personal, Poetry, Prayer, Things That Make Me Cry, Things that make me SMILE at 7:48 pm by Dan Barnett

God’s Arms

In our arms we hoped to hold you, safe from all harm.

With our eyes we hoped to see you grow up and behold

The future that awaited you filled with hopes and dreams.

We wanted to kiss you and show you our love

And teach you the love of our God up above.

But God’s plans were greater than we can ever dream.

He planned your life perfectly,

Though too short it seemed.

For although I could hold you for moments at a time

His arms are greater, much greater than mine.

Now in my dreams I long to know you as the blessing you are.

As I wait for that glorious day, when your face I’ll behold.

And when the future that awaited us is finally revealed

I’ll run to you and hold you and fully understand

Of how the point of it all was hidden in His hands.

Because…

Oh how I wish I could hold you for moments at least,

But you were always God’s little one.

And, now you’re safe in His arms.

This is the song I wrote for our “glory baby”.

Beth ha t go and write a post on her blog that teared me up.  GEez!

Our pastor preached on Psalm 121 on Sunday.  What timing of this passage.  God is great.

Miracles

Some of you have heard of Beth’s mom’s recent spat with possible Ovarian Cancer.   They had found a huge mass on her ovary a few weeks ago.  Beth’s grandma told her mom a few days before the exploratory surgery that she had Catholics, Methodists, and Baptists praying for her, so she was pretty much covered.  We chuckled at it, but it was great to see how many people were praying for her.  After the surgery this past week, I told Beth the Pentecostals must have been praying to(again as humor).  When the doctors went in they were expecting to remove both ovaries and possibly a kidney, as there seemed to be something on one of them as well.  Praise God, because he made it quite a bit easier and showed up with his power.  The doctors found no trace of this mass on her ovary.  There was no sign of tumors anywhere, and they dug around quite a bit to find it.  We’re very excited at what God has done.

Prayer for a Friend

Posted in Friends, God, Mission, Personal, Prayer, The Church, Things That Make Me Cry at 8:19 am by Dan Barnett

A friend of ours from church was in a pretty bad accident last night.  He broke his hip socket and his pelvis so bad that they will have to do surgery on it.  The recovery will be anywhere form 2-4 months if all goes well.  Please pray for him.   His name is Joe.  Even more please pray for his family.  He has a wife and 4 kids.  This is going to be an extremely trying time as he won’t be able to work during this time.  As a carpenter I know it will be exceptionally hard getting back into his job.  Please be praying very intentionally for them.  Thanks.
